Brand Management Definition
Looking online, I've found a lot of information talking about brand management. It's apparently very important to a business. Curious to know why, I dug a little deeper, hoping to learn more about this "brand management" that was so important for every businessperson to know. I looked at a score of different sites for a brand management definition, and this is about what I found:
Brand management definition: the way a company uses their brand name.
This isn't verbatim; it's a summary of what these sites told me brand management was supposed to mean. So I guess it's just my brand management definition, not necessarily that of any of these sites. This definition was compiled with a bunch of input from different authors and areas of business, but it seems to make sense to me. And while I was researching, I found out why it's really so important in the business realm.
You see, a brand name follows a company everywhere it goes, just like your name follows you. And, like your own name, it can start to take on a meaning of its own, based largely on its reputation. If you've ever had a friend say something like, "That was a very Rachel thing to do," you know what I mean. Whether or not you want it, your brand name takes on a little life of its own, and people associate your company with that reputation.
That reputation becomes very important when you're involved in business. It can mean the difference between a potential customer and someone who isn't willing to try anything with your name on it. You need to establish a good level of trust with your customers, or they won't want to try anything you've touched.
So what is brand management, then? Have we really reached a proper brand management definition? Brand management is the strategy your company has for using your brand name. It's how your company plans to keep your brand name positive in the public eye, so that your potential customers will know they can trust your products - simply because they've got your name on them. It's how people know what you represent as a company.
